House Fire in Falls Church on Idylwood Road
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Saturday, March 6, 2010, at approximately 6:20 a.m., in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located at 7246 Idylwood Road.
Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the basement and sides of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. The fire started in the basement. An occupant of the home attempted to extinguish the fire prior to the arrival of emergency crews. The occupant received injuries from the fire and was medevaced to the Washington Hospital Burn Center with life threatening injuries. One firefighter received a non-life threatening injury. A total of three occupants have been displaced.
Damage is estimated at $225,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Improper disposal of smoking materials caused the fire.
